Hi.

This site is an account of my travels. I hope you find it useful.

Mt Saddleback

Mt Saddleback

Col and I hiked Mt Saddleback in north-east Tasmania on Saturday 29 May 2021 in perfect conditions. The return trip takes about 3 hrs (not including breaks — we stopped for about an hour on the summit for lunch).

Location

The start of the walk Mathinna Plains Road, near Mathinna.

Track Notes

The trail head is reached up a narrow four-wheel-drive track, with the route being sign-posted off Mathinna Plains Road. The trailhead is signposted and walk itself is well taped and cairned.

After a short section through the forest the climb begins in earnest, initially over boulders and subsequently on a very steep dirt track covered in loose shale.

After about 40 minutes a summit plateau is reached, which takes some walking before the true summit is reached. Resist the urge to climb here and keep an eye out for the cairned track that saddles around several higher points on its way to the true summit.
